Sony’s Spider-Noir spinoff series featuring Nicolas Cage is ramping up, and we know this because the cast is getting nailed down. With Cage set to play the 1930s detective version of Spider-Man, two more names have been set to join the Spider-Man show, which sprang from the popularity the character gained in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Variety reports that Oscar-nominated actor Brendan Gleeson has joined the Spider-Noir cast, in a role that is expected to be the main villain. Meanwhile, New Girl actor Lamorne Morris has landed the role of journalist Robbie Robertson, described as “Driven, hard-working, and won’t take no for an answer. A dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him as a black professional in 1930s New York. He takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck. He is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.”

In the comics, Robertson is a key Spider-Man supporting player and an editor at the Daily Bugle where he regularly butts heads with J. Jonah Jameson.

Gleeson is best known for his roles in Gangs of New York, The Banshees of Inisherin, and In Bruges. He’ll be taking on a different comic book movie role later this year as part of Joker: Folie à Deux.

Spider-Noir “tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

There’s no release  date yet, but the series is expected to stream on MGM+ and Prime Video.
