Game development is in collaboration with the Arbitrum Foundation and Sequence, the crypto game development company that raised $40 million in funding from Ubisoft.

Ubisoft, developer and publisher of games like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, announced that they are working on a new game built on top of the Ethereum layer 2 scaling network Arbitrum.

What’s the Significance: Players can earn rewards while engaging with a familiar storyline inspired by Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

What is Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E?

Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. (General Assignment Mandatory Entertainment) will be based in the same universe as the Netflix animated series “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.”

  • Game Characters: The game will feature characters from other franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Beyond Good & Evil, as clarified by Ubisoft.
  • The Ubisoft Ecosystem Involvement: The game publisher also stressed that players can make progress by “overcoming challenges across various channels inside and outside Ubisoft’s ecosystem.”
  • Community-Centric Goal: The players will also be part of a web3 governance system so they can decide about the possible plot of the game.

Why Arbitrum? Ubisoft Labs VP Nicolas Pouard said they chose to develop Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. on the Arbitrum because they believe that the network can enable their community-centric goal.

  • The goal is not just the community creating the story, but even in gameplay and side experiences.
  • For Pouard, achieving their community-centric goal “fosters transparency and shared creation, paving the way for a truly collaborative future for Captain Laserhawk.”

Zoom out: Aside from Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., Ubisoft is also developing Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, an upcoming PvP tactical RPG on Oasys Network.
