Nova is finally headed to Disney Plus! Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum gives fans their first details about the highly-anticipated series.
Earlier this year it was confirmed that Marvel was finally putting together a Nova project. While details were sparse, it was revealed that the series would be coming to Disney Plus with a projected release window of three to four years down the road. Given that fans have been waiting literally decades for the character to make his live-action debut, a few more years isn’t too long.
It has also been confirmed that the Nova series will focus on Richard Rider, bringing the original Centurion Prime to the small screen. However, a separate rumor seemed to point to the idea that his successor Sam Alexander would be taking up the leading role in the series, potentially suggesting that Marvel could be using both versions of the iconic character in the Disney Plus show.
New Details About Nova’s Series Revealed
While the above details are interesting, they’re only the bare bones of what makes up any series, let alone one as big as the projects on Disney Plus. Luckily, Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum managed to slip in some more news while promoting Agatha All Along, admitting that Nova has a much wider scope than fans might have expected.
“It’s an amazing ensemble piece, I shouldn’t say too much.” Winderbaum told Phase Zero, adding “It’s a great cast of characters. It’s got shades of [Star] Trek, it’s got shades of Battlestar [Galactica], but also has, it also feels like if you know those comics, you know how heated, let’s say, that Richard Rider kind of world can get, and it certainly embraces all of that.”
The Nova series being an ensemble piece seems to suggest that the idea of Richard Rider and Sam Alexander sharing the spotlight in the show could be the right one. It’s also interesting that Marvel is focusing hard on the science fiction angle when most of their cosmic project up until this point have been closer to space operas, which may have struggled budget-wise on the Disney Plus service.
Nova is currently in production for Disney Plus. The series currently has no release date. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of Marvel Studios and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
