Kirsten Dunst To Co-Star in Forthcoming True Crime Picture

Oscar-nominated actress, Kirsten Dunst, is slated to appear in a substantial role in the upcoming true crime movie, Roofman.

Filmmaker Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) will be helming an intriguing new drama called Roofman which is about a serial thief named Jeffrey Manchester who secretly came into McDonalds restaurants through their roofs in order to rob them. Channing Tatum will be portraying Manchester and joining him in the cast of Roofman is going to be The Power of the Dog Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee Kirsten Dunst.

Dunst needs no formal introduction. Early in her career, she “brought it” in movies she played in as a young girl like Interview with the Vampire and Jumanji. She went on to make Bring It On and Spider-Man (the early Tobey Maguire ones). She showed her more dramatic side in films like Elizabethtown and Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette before finally securing a well-deserved Oscar nod for her work in the 2021 Academy Award-nominated film, The Power of the Dog. Even though Marie Antoinette tanked at the box-office, critics singled out Dunst for her compelling leading work in the movie.

In Roofman, Dunst will play a woman who works in a Toys ‘R Us and has a couple of kids. Manchester hid out from the authorities for a while in Toys ‘R Us and Circuit City before getting his just desserts for robbing the McDonald’s stores. In the film, Manchester will befriend the character played by Dunst. It appears that the two characters form an earnest connection in the movie that should create dramatic tension within the story line.

Earlier this year in the A24 action film, Civil War, Dunst showed she still had her dramatic edge as an actress. In fact, if the year was over now, she may well have scored an Oscar nod for her role in that film. Meanwhile, Channing Tatum has been doing some interesting work this year as well in well-received movies like Fly Me to the Moon and Blink Twice. Roofman should afford both performers an opportunity to show off their excellent acting abilities.

As soon as Roofman starts going into production, Dunst should proceed to deliver an intriguing performance. She’s been doing progressively better work in each role she takes on. She has appeared in a diverse body of films which have certainly demonstrated her range as an actress. The box-office hit, Civil War, could have been some of her best work to date, if one goes by the very favorable reviews of her performance that came out when the film was released.
