My grandfather, William George Iles typically despatched romantic postcards to my grandmother in the course of the First World Conflict. Will joined the military on 14 October 1915 in Niagara-on-the-Lake. He left for abroad 23 April 1916 from Halifax. He did not return to Canada till 24 April 1919 when he was demobilized in Toronto. He was 30 when he joined. My dad wasn’t fairly two months outdated when his father left for Europe.
