Arthur Asher Miller was born to Augusta Barnett and Isidore Miller. His father owned a profitable ladies’s clothes manufacturing enterprise and the household lived a snug way of life till almost dropping all the pieces throughout the Nice Despair.
In 1956, he married for the second time to actress Marilyn Monroe. Their excessive profile relationship thrusted him into the Hollywood highlight. Shortly after, he was referred to as to look earlier than the Home of Un-American Actions Committee after his passport renewal was refused. He had beforehand written the play, The Crucible, a dramatization of the Salem witch trials, as an allegory for McCarthyism. Throughout his questioning, the committee demanded Miller “out” names of Communist sympathizers. He refused and was present in contempt of Congress and blacklisted. In 1958, his conviction was overturned by the court docket of appeals.
Thought of one of many biggest American playwrights of the twentieth century, Miller received accolades for his work, together with the Pulitzer Prize for his play, Demise of a Salesman.
